Exciting Hmong Food in Minneapolis’ North Loop

Union Hmong Kitchen is a restaurant experience steeped in Hmong culture, stories, rituals, foods, and flavors. We marry local Minneapolis traditions with those from South and Eastern Asia, introducing Hmong flavors to American palates. Chef Yia Vang, the acclaimed force behind UHK, designs every dish to speak to customers through food, delivering a unique narrative with each menu item.

Award Winning Chef Yia Vang

Chef Yia Vang has been a trailblazer in the Twin Cities, introducing Hmong food to countless residents. In his early days as a food entrepreneur, he experimented with a number of Hmong popup trailers, usually stationed outside of local breweries. Union Hmong Kitchen within Graze is Chef Vang’s first brick and mortar establishment, and has quickly become one of the most highly celebrated Hmong restaurants in Minneapolis.

MSP Magazine named Chef Vang as “Chef of the Year 2019.” In 2022, he gained national recognition as a James Beard Award Finalist. In 2023, his outstanding Hmong food in Minneapolis propelled him to a semi-finalist position for the Best Chef Midwest James Beard award. Chef Yang has also appeared on Iron Chef and hosts the podcasts White on Rice and Hmonglish.
