This Summer’s Best Dog-Friendly Patios in Minneapolis

One of the only things Minneapolis residents love more than good food, drink and company may be dogs. Especially as the weather warms, getting a bite with your favorite furry friend will likely be on the top of your list. Don’t worry: there are plenty of dog-friendly restaurants in Minneapolis that open their patios to our four-legged family members, and we’ve compiled a list of the best locations for an afternoon or night out.

Graze Provisions + Libations in North Loop

While being able to bring Fido to a restaurant is great, it can be a serious downer if you’re stuck with only a handful of menu options. Not at Graze! We have created a diverse community centered around small food businesses of all sorts and have a patio that can only be described as “the best” in Minneapolis, with or without dogs (but, obviously, made that much better by friendly dogs). Whether you’re craving a taco while your friends want burgers, or you are open to whatever your stomach demands, you have a wealth of options to choose from.

Plus: Fido is invited year-round! In the winter, the patio is protected from the elements by a tent and heaters meaning you AND your furry friend can shake off the cabin fever over a nice drink and satisfying meal. (But, let’s face it, Minnesotans have never been a people that avoid a good time, even in the dead of winter.)

The Howe Daily Kitchen & Bar on Minnehaha Ave. S.

Don’t want to share your order with your dog (and who can resist those puppy eyes?!)? The Howe Daily Kitchen & Bar offers a dog-friendly menu and caters to polite furry friends all year long on the back patio. Even during the winter when the patio is covered and heated, you can find a few doggos enjoying the weekend or an after-work treat.

Book Club on Penn Ave. S

If you’re looking for a leisurely way to enjoy West-Coast cuisine right here in Minneapolis, Book Club offers a dog-friendly patio during the summer. Just be sure to call ahead: 40 degrees might feel like shorts weather after a wicked winter, but that doesn’t mean the patio is open for business.

Lake & Irving near Uptown

After you and your furry friend have worked up an appetite at Lake of the Isles Off-Leash Dog Park during the summer months, swing by Lake & Irving to refuel with a nice house cocktail and meal. Again, it’s best to call ahead, but you’re sure to get your second wind after a pit stop at this Minneapolis favorite.

Surly Brewing Co. on Malcolm Ave. SE

Want to skip the meal entirely? Minneapolis favorite Surly Brewing Co. not only offers a variety of locally brewed beers (described as “brewed aggressively in Minnesota”), but a dog-friendly patio perfect for your pup. Of course, there’s a menu if you want to nosh on a pizza or a couple of apps, but this brewery-restaurant is one of The Cities’ top spots for relaxing with a pint and your puppy.

Do you have another favorite dog-friendly patio to consider under the title of “best” in Minneapolis? Let us know, and then stop by Graze to see what the fuss is about.
